New Zealand Portrait Gallery, Adam Award Judge, 2014, Nicola Kalinsky said that a good portrait should deliver three things;  technical excellence, a connection between artist and subject and a sense that the portrait will survive long after the sitter.  This is my aim when I begin to consider a new portrait.
